Learn German, one useful step at a time

Build everyday German from A1 to B1. Use the short activities below alongside your lessons and your Schritt-Kurs course book. Practice a little, use it in real life, and return to it tomorrow.

A1 · Start with yourself and your day

Practice your name, where you live, numbers, times and simple questions. Learn nouns with their article and a short sentence. Say your answers aloud rather than only reading them.

  • Ich heiße … / Ich wohne in … / Ich lerne Deutsch.
  • Write five sentences introducing yourself.
  • Ask and answer: Wie heißen Sie? Wo wohnen Sie?

A2 · Handle familiar situations

Practice appointments, shopping, transport and short messages. Focus on communicating the information someone needs: who you are, what you need and when you are available.

  • Write a short message asking for an appointment.
  • Practice: Ich möchte einen Termin vereinbaren.
  • Describe yesterday in a few simple sentences.

B1 · Explain, connect and give reasons

Practice talking about experiences, plans and your opinion. Connect sentences with words such as weil, deshalb and trotzdem. Work on listening, speaking, reading and writing, and ask for feedback on a short text or recording.

  • Explain why a particular job interests you.
  • Give your opinion about learning online and in a classroom.
  • Write an email with a greeting, a clear request and a closing.

Schritt-Kurs · Use your book actively

Choose the chapter you are studying. Before the lesson, preview its pictures and key words. Afterwards, close the book and say what you remember. Make your own examples instead of only copying the exercise. The activities on this website are original supporting practice; they do not reproduce the textbook.

  • Mark one useful expression to try outside class.
  • Keep a short list of questions for your teacher.
  • Review difficult examples on another day.

A simple 15-minute practice routine

Try five minutes of listening, five minutes of speaking aloud and five minutes of writing or reviewing words. Keep the task small enough to repeat. A BAMF integration course includes language learning up to B1 and an orientation course; ask a course provider about placement and participation for your situation.

  • Listen once for the main idea, then once for details.
  • Record a short answer and listen to it again.
  • Finish with one sentence you can use today.
